6th March 2019 – Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation Heather Humphreys and IDA Ireland today welcomed the news that Berkshire Hathaway Insurance Group has been granted a licence by the Central Bank of Ireland for its new entity Berkshire Hathaway European Insurance DAC (BHEI) to operate as an insurer in Ireland and the European Economic Area (EEA).

Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys said “Berkshire Hathaway is a world-renowned company and I welcome the news that its insurance arm has been granted a licence to operate here. This is a great win for Ireland as we seek to deepen and expand the range of Financial Services companies who are investing here. Ireland is now a major player and a very attractive location for Financial Services companies from all over the world”.

Martin Shanahan, CEO of IDA Ireland said “Ireland is well positioned to provide certainty to companies servicing the European market in a post Brexit world.

This is yet another very important signal to the market that financial services companies can come to Ireland and service their European customers with minimum disruption to their business,” concluded Martin Shanahan.

Minister of State at the Department of Finance, Michael D’Arcy TD agreed “The Government will continue to work to promote Ireland as the European location of choice for specialisation and innovation in financial services.
