IDA Ireland welcomes Intel’s Fab 34

IDA Ireland and the Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment, today welcomed the official opening of Intel’s Fab 34 at their Leixlip campus as they begin deploying the first at-scale production using Intel 4 technology, and Intel’s first use of extreme ultraviolet technology in Europe. This Leixlip facility will lead to a doubling of Intel’s manufacturing space in Ireland. As announced in March 2022, a total of €17 Billion is being invested by Intel in creating Fab 34, and once fully operational it will employ 1,600 new full-time staff, bringing Intel’s total employment in Ireland to 6,500. Ireland now plays a critical role in sustaining and augmenting the semiconductor supply chain across Europe.

Speaking of the opening, Michael Lohan, CEO IDA Ireland said, “The impact of Intel’s remarkable €17 billion investment in Fab 34 will be transformative to Ireland’s advanced manufacturing sector. Fab 34 will house some of the most complex manufacturing technology in the world and this exceptional investment reinforces the strategic importance of Ireland in global semiconductor manufacturing. The facility firmly underlines the significance of Intel’s operations in Ireland in advancing its technology roadmap and it reinforces its enduring commitment to Ireland. I wish Intel every success with Fab 34.’’
