Tuesday, 9th March 2019 – IDA Ireland has welcomed the announcement that Amazon.com is to invest in a renewable energy project in Donegal to support Amazon Web Services (AWS) Global infrastructure.

As part of AWS’s long-term commitment to achieve 100 percent renewable energy for its global infrastructure, the company has committed to buying the energy from a new wind project in Ireland, a 91.2 MW wind farm in Donegal. The Donegal wind farm project, which will be developed by Invis Energy, is expected to deliver clean energy no later than the end of 2021 and it is the first unsubsidized Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) project in Ireland.

Martin Shanahan, CEO, IDA Ireland congratulated the company on committing to this renewable energy project in Ireland,  “Amazon’s decision to invest in a wind farm in Meenbog, Donegal, will both help to support Ireland’s renewable energy goals and greatly strengthens Ireland’s position as a global destination for renewable energy infrastructure. This announcement underpins Amazon’s commitment to Ireland and follows the company’s announcement in June last year that it will create 1000 new jobs over the next two years.”
