IDA Ireland provides access to a range of external advice and green grant supports to encourage IDA clients adopt green investment strategies in their organisation to increase competitiveness and achieve international environmental best practices. Here you will find a list of the supports onoffer.
IDA Ireland’s Green Start Grant
Grant aid to support a company investigate a particular environmental initiative e.g. develop a Climate Action Plan. The grant aid supports the cost of hiring a consultant to provide advice & training to help the company investigate the environmental project. The grant pays a portion of consultant and employee’s time working on the project. IDA Ireland Support up to €5,000 of a Client Project Cost of €6,300.
IDA Ireland’s Green Plus Grant
Similar funding basis to Green Start but for larger environmental investigations that require more employee and consultant’s time. The Max IDA Ireland can support 50% of the total project cost up to a total project cost of €60,000.
Examples of projects that can be supported by Green Start or Green Plus:
Training and advice to assist in
- Preparing a Decarbonisation strategy / Climate Action Plan
- Identifying emissions and cost savings opportunities
- Establishing a baseline assessment of emissions – Scopes 1,2 and 3
- Improving water sustainability
- Product Environmental Footprint – CO2
- Life Cycle Analysis
- Designing for the circular economy, transition to circular business models
- Sustainable and Circular packaging solutions e.g. end of life and recycling options, EcoDesign
- Sustainable Logistics - reduce emissions, air pollutants & improve fuel efficiency e.g. GLEC framework
Enterprise Emissions Reduction Investment Fund
Aims to incentivise manufacturing companies to decarbonise by investing in CO2 reducing technologies in their operations. This grant is specifically tailored to CapEx investments that reduce carbon emissions in the manufacturing combustion process (Scope 1 emissions).
The funding amount is dependent on CapEx type:
- a) Carbon footprint measurement & management systems: Min €5,000 – Max €50,000 (max of 50% of eligible costs)
- b) Installation of carbon reducing technologies: Min €20,000 – Max €1m (max of 30% of eligible costs)
Eligible technologies to include installation of:
- Energy metering systems
- Industrial Heat Pumps (including air, water and ground source)
- Electric steam boilers
- Heat recovery technologies
Sustainable Recovery Fund
Aims to reduce a company’s carbon intensity through investment in CO2 abatement technologies.
IDA Ireland can support between 15% – 30% of a total project cost, depending on location.
Green Eligible costs include:
- Total capital investment costs for carbon abating equipment
- Consultant costs to develop and install the project
- Annual license / software costs, and salaries, for use in the development and installation of the project
Environmental Aid Programme
This grant provides funding to support capital intensive investments to improve the environmental sustainability of an operation and incentivises the operation to go beyond existing licensed standards.
The Environmental Aid Programme can support capex investment to reduce environmental impacts across Scopes 1,2 and 3. The key focus of this support is on improving energy efficiency, increasing use of electrification and switching from fossil fuels such as natural gas, investment in on-site renewables and de-carbonising technologies. Investments that reduce air and water pollution, conserve water at the site beyond required standards, and improve biodiversity at the site can also be considered for grant support.
Examples:
Capital investment that exceeds standards
- To reduce emissions in all parts of the operation or supply chain (Scopes 1, 2, 3 emissions)
- Improve overall environmental footprint
- Capex to generate renewable electricity on-site e.g. solar panels, wind turbines
- Capex to use low or zero carbon fuels e.g. biomass, biomethane or other biogases
