PepsiCo Inc, headquartered in New York is a top 2 global food and beverage company selling products in more than 200 countries and territories. Products include Pepsi, 7-Up, Tropicana, Mountain Dew, Lipton, Gatorade, Frito-Lay, Aquafina, Walkers Crisps, Doritos snacks and Quaker Oats. It offers the world’s largest portfolio of billion dollar food and beverage brands. The portfolio of billion dollar brands is now at 22, which is 70% of the corporation’s revenues. Company in Ireland PepsiCo Worldwide Flavours (PWF) commenced operations in Little Island in 1974 and now employs over 700 people in IDA-supported activities in Cork. It is the global headquarters for PepsiCo’s strategic supply chain and services functions and is the only global headquarters function located outside the US. All parts of the PepsiCo portfolio are now managed through Ireland, including Nutrition, Snacks and Beverages. It operates from three locations in Cork-Little Island, East Gate and Carrigaline. Current Cork-based operations include two beverage concentrate manufacturing plants, one food flavours concentrate manufacturing plant, concentrate operations headquarters for a global team and R&D facilities. All parts of the PepsiCo portfolio are now managed through Ireland, including Nutrition, Snacks and Beverages. PWF is responsible for sourcing flavour and functional ingredients to make more than 1,200 recipes for PepsiCo’s billion-dollar brands such as Gatorade, Pepsi and 7Up. It works with 450 suppliers around the world and delivers to more than 600 bottlers in 140 markets. The R&D laboratory houses the global quality services team for beverages. In the last 15 years, Cork has undergone a significant mandate evolution, leveraging IDA support including R&D grants. It has developed & operates a successful business model focused on manufacturing concentrates for carbonated soft drinks (CSDs) and snack foods. PepsiCo’s R&D activities in Cork have steadily expanded over the last five years to include work on snacks, regulatory activity and most recently dairy with the opening of its Global Dairy Centre of Excellence in 2016 and in 2017 it extended The Centre to house its Fruit & Vegetable R&D team for Western Europe. The Centre now houses more than 110 associates, including 19 PhDs from 16 nationalities, supporting all of PepsiCo’s product categories, making it one of PepsiCo’s most diverse centres globally. In addition, Pepsi Co has a sales and marketing office based in Dublin with 60 people.
