CORK, Ireland, September 1, 2015 – United Technologies Research Center (UTRC), the research and innovation arm of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), announced today the expansion of its Ireland facility, United Technologies Research Centre Ireland Limited, to include aerospace research in cyber-physical systems. The addition of the Centre of Excellence in Cyber-Physical Systems for Aerospace will create 25 highly skilled roles in electronics, diagnostics and data analytics, controls, aircraft systems engineering and embedded systems.

The investment is made with the support of the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through the Industrial Development Agency (IDA) Ireland.

Speaking at an announcement to mark the official opening of the new Centre of Excellence in Cyber- Physical Systems for Aerospace, Minister for Agriculture, Food, Marine and Defence, Simon Coveney TD, said, “I am delighted to welcome this expansion by UTRC into aerospace research. The choice of Cork for this activity is a clear demonstration of Ireland’s ability to provide a highly skilled workforce for this type of activity. An exceptional level of collaboration between industry, academia, state agencies and regulatory authorities drives Ireland’s dynamic RDI sector. This is supported by a highly pro-business government policy.”

The support from the Irish Government reflects the strategy behind the European Union’s five-year Horizon 2020 program: an €80 billion European Union (EU) Research and Innovation program driving economic growth and research breakthroughs in Europe. Horizon 2020 Ireland-specific initiatives offer numerous opportunities for research-based companies such as UTRC.
