Press Release 14 May 2015

Dublin, 14 May 2015 (1200hrs) – Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD, and Richard Bruton TD, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, announced today that Slack, a privately held software company headquartered in San Francisco, CA, has opened a European HQ in Dublin to meet the growing demand for its product. The company plans to hire 100 people in the next two years in customer support and account management roles for the European market.

The jobs are being created with the support of the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

The popular messaging and search platform brings team communication into one place, creating a single unified archive accessible through powerful search. With over 750,000 daily active users, Slack is the fastest growing business app ever, having launched in February 2014, and is transforming communication for teams across industries and disciplines. Customers include Adobe, Airbnb, BuzzFeed, Dow Jones, eBay, Expedia, HBO and The New York Times.

“The launch of our European headquarters is a significant milestone for Slack as we grow our business,” said James Sherrett, Slack’s Dublin-based accounts team lead. “With an initial focus on customer experience and account management, our Dublin office will play a central role in our international footprint.”

Making the announcement Taoiseach Enda Kenny said: “I'd like to welcome the arrival of Slack Technologies into the Digital Hub in Dublin and also to Ireland, the digital hub of Europe.  By choosing Ireland as the location of its European HQ, it is reaffirming the reputation of Ireland as the location for young innovative technology companies.  Slack is joining a global digital community in Ireland who are pushing the boundaries of innovation.  The creation of 100 new jobs by Slack Technologies in its initial establishment in Dublin is also fantastic news for the sector."

Minister Bruton said: “The software industry forms a key part of the Action Plan for Jobs, and in recent years we have seen impressive jobs growth in both Irish and multinational companies here, following new supports we have introduced. Today’s announcement that Slack, a fast-growing company in this area, is locating its European HQ in Ireland and creating 100 jobs is a further boost for this sector. I wish James and the team every success.”

Martin Shanahan, CEO, IDA Ireland said: “Slack is one of the most talked about companies on the tech scene right now. Slack was attracted to Ireland due to our international reputation as a location where companies can quickly establish their operations and rapidly expand using the strong pool of local talent. Slack joins an impressive portfolio of dynamic, high-growth IDA companies that are already located here in Ireland.”
