Press Release 07 Jun 2012

Minister of State for NewEra, Fergus O’Dowd, T.D., today joined Prometric Inc. President and CEO Michael Brannick and IDA Ireland to announce continued jobs growth in Dundalk.  Today’s announcement serves as a significant milestone for the U.S.-based company, which marked its official opening with a brief ceremony.

Prometric announced 100 jobs over three years in 2011 and since then the company has exceeded — in just six months — its jobs plan for all of 2012, raising its Dundalk-based workforce to 52 professionals in test publishing, software engineering, business analysis, project analytics, executive and project management, human resources, finance and accounting.  To date, Prometric has made a talent investment of €2.5 million and €800,000 in construction of its global test development operations centre.

Officiating at the company’s opening ceremony, Minister O’Dowd said, “Today’s announcement is an important indicator for economic strength in the North-East Region.  Prometric serves as a possible case study for how the Irish government can encourage sustainable employment growth by leading global companies.  I am encouraged by the early success Prometric has shown and look forward to future announcements of additional jobs creation.”

In November 2011, Prometric, a trusted provider of market-leading test development and delivery solutions, announced that it would establish a global operation in the Finnabair Business & Technology Park and recruited for 32 newly created positions.  The company’s business model revolves around supplying professional testing and assessment solutions for approximately 400 clients throughout the world in the academic, financial, government, healthcare, professional, corporate and information technology markets.

For example, more than 10,000 candidates have completed the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence, or CPC exam, administered by the Road Safety Authority (RSA).  The certification is required for bus and heavy truck operators.

“Prometric thrives year after year by providing some of the world’s leading organisations fair, reliable and legally defensible solutions for putting the right people in the right jobs at the right time.  This is a business proposition that cannot be overvalued,” said Michael Brannick, President and CEO of Prometric.  “The certification and licensure tests we develop in Dundalk will determine whether someone earns access to graduate school, gets a job as a software engineer, operates a successful business as an auto repair technician or is able to practice medicine as a physician, nurse or other healthcare professional.”

Brannick continued, “We have been able to accelerate our 2012 jobs plan by finding the right skills and talent here in the Dundalk area.  This benefits our overall business growth strategy by integrating a central test development group in Europe with our already successful operations in Asia and North America, allowing global support for our clients virtually around the clock.  Our testing and assessment solutions are better, faster and at less cost than alternatives on the market or even organisations’ in-house development efforts.”

“The Irish government and IDA have been great partners in helping Prometric cultivate jobs growth in the North-East Region, and today’s announcement provides a vote of confidence for reaching the ambitious goals we set forth in late 2011,” said Brannick.

IDA Ireland, the Irish government agency responsible for attracting foreign investment to Ireland, is supporting Prometric’s growth in the region.

IDA Ireland Executive Director, Dermot Clohessy, said  “Prometric’s announcement that it has exceeded its recruitment targets since first establishing in November 2011 illustrates the rich supply of talent in the North-East Region and signifies tangible progress toward reaching a key target area for IDA’s strategy Horizon 2020, which aims to support Regional development.  Through its initial efforts in corporate social responsibility and innovative business strategies, Prometric is showing to be the type of company Ireland covets and can help foster continued success.”

Prometric’s three-year jobs plan projects between 100 to 150 new hires.
