Minister Bruton and IDA Ireland launch ‘Connect and Invest – Waterford’ website

New marketing initiative to promote Gateway location of Waterford and the South East for inward investment

Thursday 6th September 2012 – Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD and IDA Ireland today launched a new digital marketing initiative for inward investment focusing initially on the South East and the Gateway location of Waterford –

For the first time, IDA Ireland is now marketing online the specific attributes of individual Gateways and providing each region with its own web presence. Over the next six months, IDA Ireland will roll out the next phase of this initiative to focus on other Regions and their Gateway locations.

Connect and Invest Waterford
is an interactive experience designed for use on tablets, smartphone and PC. Information on location, education, lifestyle and existing IDA Ireland and indigenous companies is provided through rich imagery, video and text and will be continuously updated.  The website will allow IDA Ireland executives to showcase the Gateways unique attributes in face-to-face client meetings.

Waterford and the South East region plays a significant role in the global operations of over  60 IDA client companies, including global names such as Genzyme, Bausch and Lombe, MSD, Coca Cola and Zurich Insurance.  There are 11,600 people employed in the region via IDA Ireland client companies.

Launching the initiative, Minister Bruton said:

“Last year I developed the South East Employment Action Plan to address the persistent employment problems faced by the region over many years. As well as implementing practical measures to encourage organisations in the region to work together to improve the enterprise climate in the region, I also directed the employment agencies under my Department to assign a clear priority to the region.

“Today’s announcement is further evidence of that priority in action. I, together with my agencies, will continue to work with local representatives and all stakeholders in the region to address the long-standing problems it faces and help get jobs and growth back into the economy”.

Mary Buckley, Head of Regional Development, IDA Ireland said “’Horizon 2020’ – IDA Ireland’s  strategy to 2014 has a strong focus on achieving regional economic development through the Regional Gateways.  As Ireland competes for high quality investments, the concept of scale is crucial.  Leading global corporations require a significant population pool, access to qualified talent, world standard physical and digital infrastructure coupled with the availability of sophisticated professional and business support services.  IDA Ireland prioritises the marketing of Gateway locations within each Region as the locations of critical mass to meet the requirements of overseas investors.”

“The Waterford site contains a large amount of information and will be supplemented further in the coming months to take account of developments on the ground and observations from stakeholders.”

“IDA Ireland looks forward to continuing to work closely with its partners in the region to promote the location as an attractive place for inward investment and job creation opportunities,” concluded Mary Buckley

Waterford’s City Manager, Michael Walsh and its County Manager, Denis McCarthy welcomed the marketing initiative showcasing Waterford’s strengths and attractiveness to global investors.
