Press Release 03 Oct 2012

IDA today welcomes the news that Cork-based multinational Janssen has won the overall Engineers Ireland Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Company of the Year award for 2012.  Janssen’s overhaul of its business model also ensured more than 500 hi-tech jobs were sustained across its two locations, Little Island and Ringaskiddy, in Cork.

The awards which are now in their ninth year are aimed at recognising engineering-led organisations which, through adopting best-practice CPD activities and investing in the up-skilling of their engineers and technicians, have brought about real and measurable achievements.  More than 140 organisations in Ireland have benefited from achieving the Engineers Ireland national CPD Accredited Employer standard.

Commenting on Janssen’s award, IDA Ireland, CEO, Barry O’Leary, “The annual awards of Engineers Ireland showcase what an important contribution companies in that sector make to the health of the entire economy.  Company transformation and upskilling of staff is a continuous process at Ireland’s leading firms who employ teams of engineers.   These awards recognise how much work is being done in those two key areas. I am also delighted to see the number of IDA clients across disciplines who are heavily  engaged in these processes and who took time to submit projects for this years awards’’.

Other 2012 winners included ON Semiconductor in the small-sized company category; Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics in the medium-sized category; PM Group in the large-sized company category and Fingal County Council in the public sector category.  KCI Manufacturing Ltd, Athlone, was presented with an ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ for a first-time entrant to the competition.

Engineers Ireland’s judging panel for the annual CPD Company award included invited experts Tommy Fanning, the Head of Engineering for IDA Ireland as well as Tom Kelly, Divisional Manager – Cleantech, Electronics and Life Sciences, in Enterprise Ireland.
