Press Release 06 Oct 2015

Bethlehem, PA USA and Fermoy, Co. Cork Ireland – October 6, 2015 - ABEC today announced the opening of its new facility in Fermoy, Co. Cork Ireland.  ABEC acquired the 8,000m2 facility earlier this year and has completed refurbishment works and started operations.  ABEC is now producing engineered process equipment for biopharmaceutical manufacturing at the site, as well as delivering direct services and support to customers in Ireland and Europe.

ABEC currently has over 50 employees at the site and continues recruitment for a range of engineering, design, manufacturing and customer support personnel.  ABEC also recently completed the previously announced acquisition of Kell Stainless Ltd. in Kells, Co. Meath, bringing the total number of employees in Ireland to well over 100.

Commenting on today’s announcement ABEC’s CEO Scott Pickering said:  “We are pleased to be directly serving customers from our facilities in Ireland, and would like to thank the IDA, our contractors, Co. Cork, and the people of Fermoy for their support in reaching this milestone.”

Minister Seán Sherlock TD added: “I am delighted to open this facility as the Minister for Trade Promotion. This is a perfect fit for ABEC, for Ireland and for Fermoy. The decision of ABEC to locate here in Cork was, and is, a vote of confidence in the region as a whole. This Government has produced specific jobs targets and jobs blueprints that will support businesses looking to expand and those like ABEC, looking to establish here. This is the next chapter in our national and regional recovery and I wish ABEC and all the employees the very best of luck moving forward.”

Congratulating ABEC, IDA’s Divisional Manager of Engineering, Brian Conroy, said:  “It’s great to see this project come to fruition, culminating in the grand opening here today of these excellent facilities. I wish ABEC every success for the future with its operations here in Fermoy. This company’s location in Fermoy will act as an important reference seller for other global manufacturers considering locating in regions here in Ireland, something that is an important focus for us.”
