Annual Report 2005

Mission Statement

We will win for Ireland, its people and its regions, the best in international innovation and investment so as to contribute to the continued transformation of Ireland to a world-leading society which is rich in creativity, learning and personal and social well-being.

We will work in partnerships with other organisations to enhance the best of Irish capabilities and talents and match them to the best of global investment. We will carry out our mission with integrity, professional excellence and responsiveness to all with whom we work or are in contact.

The Irish Mind

From the earliest times the Irish mind remained free, in significant measure, of the linear centralising logic of the Greco-Roman culture which dominated most of Western Europe. The Irish intellectual tradition represents a counter-movement to this logocenterism - this would mean that the Irish did not abandon order for disorder; they created a different kind of order.

This self portrait by the artist Louis le Brocquy uses the image of the human head as the magic box which contains the unique aspects of the Irish mind.

Radical non-linear innovation is the only way to escape the ruthless hyper-competition that has been hammering down costs industry after industry - non-linear innovation requires the capacity to escape the shackles of the past and imagine exciting innovative solutions to current needs.
