Demand for power management chips continues to grow, and our end-equipment customers want innovation that saves energy. We have a small but significant presence in Cork working on innovation that gives our customers access to products that solve any energy management issue.

Steve Anderson, Senior Vice President of TI’s Power Management Business

CORK, Minister for Trade and Commerce, Billy Kelleher, TD, today (Tuesday, February 2nd 2010) officially opened the Texas Instruments Cork Ltd. (TI) Power Design Center, a power management semiconductor engineering research and development office that TI moved into last year.

TI created an engineering design center in Cork after acquiring Commergy Technologies in May 2008. Since the acquisition, TI power engineers have focused on improving energy efficiency in end-equipment designs, especially in the areas of AC adapters and high-power-density computing and server systems.

Speaking at the official opening Minister Kelleher said, ‘I am delighted to be here today for the official opening of this new Texas instruments facility. This move by Texas Instruments demonstrates the company’s commitment to its Irish operation and the innovative work carried out by the company in the global semi-conductor market is in keeping with the Government’s Smart Economy Strategy.’

‘Today’s announcement further embeds the company’s presence in Ireland and on behalf of the Irish Government I look forward to providing the necessary support to Texas Instruments in its future growth and development in Ireland”, the Minister added.

Speaking at the opening, Steve Anderson, Senior Vice President of TI’s Power Management Business said, “Demand for power management chips continues to grow, and our end-equipment customers want innovation that saves energy. We have a small but significant presence in Cork working on innovation that gives our customers access to products that solve any energy management issue.”

TI provides easy-to-implement standard and customized reference designs for applications in the notebook, personal computing (PC), server and communications markets. Drawing on expertise from this site, the company develops extremely high-efficiency power supply solutions, such as those for notebook adapters that meet and exceed the latest ENERGY STAR recommendations.

Engineers from TI’s previous Cork location completed removal into the approximately 465-square meter Little Island office in June in Eastgate Business Park. TI is the industry’s leading provider of power management integrated circuits with power design centers in every region of the world.
