Dublin, Monday 10th January 2011 - Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation, Batt O’Keeffe TD, today announced that French financial software systems developer, Murex, is to expand its Dublin operation with the creation of 30 new high value jobs. The expansion is supported by the Irish Government with the aid of IDA Ireland. Operating at the top of its field, Murex has been widely recognised in numerous international industry awards such as the Risk Technology Rankings, Energy Risk Awards, Asia Risk and Waters rankings.
Murex first established a software centre in Dublin in 2000 and the success of this operation has led to the decision to expand in Ireland. The jobs being created will be in the areas of software development, business development and consulting. The new staff being recruited will have a combination of Degree and Masters Qualifications in mathematics, engineering and computer science.
Announcing the jobs, Minister O'Keeffe described the investment as an important boost for Ireland's communications technology (ICT) sector. 'Eight of the world's top 10 technology firms are based in Ireland so Murex's decision to hire more highly skilled workers in Dublin fits well with the Government's focus on innovative high-tech industry.
'It is significant that Murex, which operates in a technically challenging niche area of the software market, has chosen Ireland for expansion, adding to our strong cluster of global ICT players and acknowledging the strong track record of the Dublin workforce,' said Minister O'Keeffe.
Commenting on the announcement Managing Director, Francois Pourprix said, ‘The success of Murex’s Irish operation to date has led to this further expansion being announced today. Ireland provides for Murex a pool of highly-skilled people from which to choose our workforce, an excellent environment for Research and Development and a reputation for success in software development. I would like to thank the existing workforce here for their dedication to making this office a success and to IDA Ireland for their support of this development.’
IDA CEO Barry O’Leary said, ‘Murex is one of a significant number of international ICT companies using Ireland as a base to develop software products for the global financial services industry and the expansion of this operation is evidence of Ireland’s ability to host high-end, innovative operations of this nature. The Dublin centre has world-wide responsibility for the end-to-end development, marketing, sales and distribution of the Murex Enterprise Risk platform and the operation also owns the Intellectual Property for this product. The presence and expansion of Murex in Ireland enhances Ireland’s position in winning knowledge-led investment and adds to the growing cluster of financial technology companies in Ireland.’
