Tralee, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation, Batt O’Keeffe TD, today,
(Tuesday, June 1st 2010) announced that Straker, an emerging leader in the field of
web localization, is to establish its European Headquarters and Customer Support
Hub in Tralee, with the creation of 25 high-value jobs. The investment is supported by
the Irish Government with the aid of IDA Ireland.
Straker has developed a technology and services platform that massively simplifies
the process of Web Localization (the process of running a website in multiple
languages), and is getting increased interest from customers in Europe and the US
resulting in the continued International expansion of the company. Recent contracts
with Sunlife, the European Commission and a number of large exporters in the US
means the new European Headquarters will be focused on servicing client needs
across EMEA and the East Coast of the US. The 25 new jobs will be in the areas of
sales, technical support, technical development and administrative functions. The
majority of the jobs will be at degree level.
Minister O’Keeffe today announced 2 investments in Tralee, one from Straker and a second 30 job investment by ENERCON. Commenting on the announcements he said, ‘These investments are important indicators of Ireland’s economic recovery and our ability to attract world-leading firms to the south-western region.’
‘The town is well served by a wide skills base in Kerry Technology Park, good transport links and high-calibre graduates from Tralee Institute of Technology – three crucial deciders in the process of drawing firms such as Straker and ENERCON to Tralee.’ said the Minister.
David Sowerby Director, Straker Europe, said, ‘We looked at a number of options for our European headquarters, but with Ireland widely recognized as the centre for Localization globally it was one of the first locations we considered. Export driven growth is a major focus for most organizations in the new economic climate and with the Internet forming the major launching point for entry into new markets the demand for our technology and translation services is increasing rapidly. The combined factors of a readily available and skilled workforce and access to the talent pool and research capability at the Institute of Technology made the Southwest a good area for servicing our increasingly global customer base’
