Expanding our capacity will enable Teleflex Medical Limerick to continue our success and serve as a key partner with our OEM customers. Our business has been strengthened over the years with IDA support, and this is yet another example of how IDA helps us invest in the future.
Ed Boarini, Sr. Vice President and General Manager of Teleflex Medical OEM
Limerick: Teleflex Medical OEM, Limerick (TML) today (8th June 2011) announced that it intends to expand its manufacturing capability and create up to 80 new jobs. The expansion is supported by the Irish Government with the aid of IDA Ireland.
TML manufactures catheter and tubing devices to support large original equipment manufacturers in the medical technology sector. TML’s expanded manufacturing capability will support existing and new clients. The company is experiencing growth from existing customers in addition to new business opportunities. The investment will be in the areas of new buildings, machinery and equipment and the 80 new jobs will be in addition to the 143 staff currently employed at the Limerick operation.
Welcoming the announcement, Ed Boarini, Sr. Vice President and General Manager of Teleflex Medical OEM, said, “Expanding our capacity will enable Teleflex Medical Limerick to continue our success and serve as a key partner with our OEM customers. Our business has been strengthened over the years with IDA support, and this is yet another example of how IDA helps us invest in the future.”
Jerry Kiely, General Manager of TML acknowledged the excellent contribution of the Teleflex management and staff in developing the business over the past years. “With new capabilities developed by the team in Limerick, we are now serving customers worldwide. I would like to thank the executive Management Team in Teleflex Medical OEM for their continued support and confidence in our employees.”
Added Kiely, “Today’s announcement reflects a long-term plan for expanding production capabilities and improving current facilities. This investment involves the reorganisation of the production area design, streamlining production processes and achieving a new plant design and the creation of an environment that improves creativity and fosters innovation.”
Welcoming the announcement, the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton TD stated, "If we are to get the economy growing again and create the jobs of the future in Ireland, government must act decisively to improve the environment in which business operates. One crucial part of this must be to build on the embedded strengths of the economy which we have built up over a number of years - including medical devices. 15 of the world's 25 top Medtech companies have operations in Ireland, and we are Europe's largest exporter of medical devices per capita. I am currently looking at ways we can build on our strength in areas such as this to assist both multinationals and start-ups to expand and create more jobs.”
"Today's announcement of 80 further jobs in a leading global medical devices company in Limerick is great news for the economy and for the region, and I am determined to do everything possible to ensure that we can replicate this announcement across the country in the coming years.”
Commenting on the announcement, Barry O’Leary, CEO of IDA Ireland said, “Innovative expansions of this nature are in keeping with IDA’s transformation targets as outlined in its strategy document Horizon 2020. On behalf of IDA Ireland, I would like to offer my continued support to TML as it further embeds its operations in Ireland. I am particularly pleased that the announcement coincides with IDA’s Board meeting, which was held in Limerick this morning.’
