The new data centre - which houses computers that run cloud computing services such as the Google search engine, Gmail and Google Maps - ranks amongst the most energy efficient in the world. It uses an advanced air-cooling system to keep its computers running smoothly, taking advantage of Ireland’s naturally cool climate. As a result, the centre does not require costly and power-hungry air-conditioning units, which are still used in many traditional data centres. New research carried out by the Contact Centre Management Association of Ireland (CCMA) into the role of contact centres throughout the country has revealed that the sector employs more than 29,000 people, with a spread of over 100 contact centre operations nationwide. Carried out in the 2nd quarter of 2011 with the support of the IDA and Enterprise Ireland, the research provides key insights into the industry sector, including its capacity for growth, competitiveness, skill levels and the challenges which it is currently facing.

100 New Jobs Announced at Hertz in Dublin 11/02/10
Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mary Coughlan, TD, today (Thursday 11th February 2010), announced that Hertz, a global leader in car rental, is to expand its European Shared Services Centre in Dublin with the creation of up to 100 new jobs. The increased capacity of the Shared Services Centre will see the transformation of Hertz’s existing Dublin operations to include support elements in the areas of human resources, finance, sales and customer care, in addition to handling customer reservations and other support services activity for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
