The Global Property Index confirms that Ireland provides strong, enforceable protection for all aspects of intellectual property

The Global Intellectual Property Index (GIPI) ranks 24 of the world's leading economies for protection and enforcement of patents, trademarks, copyright, and domain names. Despite only being added to the Index this year, Ireland ranked seventh in a review of 24 important jurisdictions.   

Ireland ranked particularly highly for domain name protection, coming fourth behind the UK, the US and Germany. For trademarks and patents, Ireland was ranked seventh and eighth respectively.

Among the EU countries, Ireland was ranked fourth overall, behind only the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.

David Brophy of FRKelly said:

"The GIPI survey reflects an international recognition that Ireland provides strong, enforceable protection for all aspects of intellectual property. This is particularly welcome as it both encourages inward investment, and provides Irish companies with a strong platform for protecting their own IP rights. On the enforcement side, the Commercial Court has shown itself in recent years to have the expertise to handle complex IP disputes quickly and efficiently, which is critical to businesses which depend on IP to protect their inventions, brands and designs."

This report gives multinationals and foreign investors added incentive to look to Ireland for their IP needs.”
