A UCD scientist has won the European Young Researcher Award at Euroscience 2010. It’s the first time that an Irish-based researcher has won the prestigious award.
Dr Donal Brennan, a postdoctoral research fellow at the UCD Conway Institute, was presented with the award in recognition of outstanding work in the early stages of his scientific career.
Donal is a specialist registrar in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital in Dublin.
He has done pioneering research on the identification and validation of breast cancer-associated biomarkers.
Biomarkers (biological markers) are being increasingly used in many scientific fields to take objective measurements – they act as indicators of normal and disease processes or pharmacological responses.
